Double Birchbox June

It’s no secret that in today’s world, online shopping has become second to none in saving time for the busy bees. Personally, I don’t always feel like driving up to the mall in order to gain access to what’s new in the beauty world. I prefer to do my research online before setting out to purchase them in person.

Birchbox has sort of rearranged the way women (and BirchboxMan) commit to quality products by allowing members to purchase miniature sizes for a fraction of the original costs. At just $10 (plus tax, free shipping) you get 5 samples based on a survey you fill out, or the month’s curated picks.  This ensures guilt free experimenting, and you don’t even have to move far. Just to your closest computer, tablet or iPhone!

Each box includes a card that lists the cosmetics inside, basic directions, and the original prices for reference. The great part? If you love the product, you can log on to your account and buy the full size underneath the month you tried it. A hassle free search.

To my delight, I received two boxes this month and a freebie.

Low Effort, High Impact.
From left to right: COOLA Setting Spray, Vasanti BrightenUp!, Living proof.® Perfect hair Day, Lord & Berry Eye Pencil, Pixi by Petra Multibalm, and (top) The Beauty Crop Mascara.

1. COOLA SPF 30 Organic Makeup Setting Spray |  $36

With a duo misting action of hydration and sun protection, the cucumber and aloe vera combination is a must have for every girl’s bag. Summer or not, you should always protect your skin! I find that this spray sets my makeup beautifully, with a strong scent and formula that makes the skin feel a bit stingy at first, then calm. I actually love it and especially that I no longer need to use a thick sunblock to shield my face when I want to catch some sun.

2. Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzynatic Face Rejuvenator |  $34

First, let me start off by saying THIS has been a blessing in disguise! I’ve been struggling with skin imperfections for as long as I can remember, but in this past year it has worsened. Dark spots and dull skin galore. I am currently dealing with a relapse due to the fact that I was on a form of accutane in high school that apparently my former dermatologist never gave a complete prescription for. Needless to say, I’m at a new (and much smarter, kinder) dermatologist who decided I will start over again. It totally sucks, but I’m happy to at least have a product that mimics microdermabrasion. This treatment is highly recommended for those who suffer with acne scars that won’t budge. For now, I can fight half the battle and glide on some concealer to the newly exfoliated surface.

3. Living proof.® Perfect hair Day.® (PhD) In-Shower Styler | $24

I was at first skeptical about this particular product due to the fact that I have tested several air-drying serums that left me with heavy hair and greasy residue. This is actually wonderfully light on the hair shaft. You can use it in the shower and rinse it after or use it as after towel-drying for tamed volume. I prefer rinsing it out, however I’ve heard wonderful things about the movement and life it gives the hair when combed and scrunched in. I refrain from using it too often so that I don’t run out when my hair is really in need of extra moisture. My strands and fly-aways just drink it up! The only down-side is that if you plan to style with heat after air-drying (even if you rinse), go easy on the product. It can leave your mane feeling dry when heat meets the hair.

4. Lord & Berry Line/Shade Eye Pencil- Black | $19

Although I once was a frequent smokey-eyed girl, these days I stick to less products around the eyes as not to irritate them or have to scrub eyeliner particles off for 15 minutes after. This eye pencil is a game changer, people. It glides on like butter and wipes off just the same. I may or may not be returning to the smokey-eye if an event comes up.

5. The Beauty Crop Fabulous Flocking Lashes Mascara | $22

I believe this mascara was sent in full-size because of the generous dimensions, and I’m not complaining! This has a bizarre texture on the lashes, almost like a sans water resistant. It’s soft and easy to comb out with a clean spoolie, but lays almost the entirety of the tube on it’s brush and then lands full-force on your lashes. I love how easy it is to clean at the end of the day, unlike other waterproof formulas, but I’m not sure I would purchase it. I’d personally rather a more sturdy and clean application, but that’s just preference.

6. Pixi by Petra Wild Rose Multibalm | $12

This chubby stick doubles as a lip balm and cheek stain. Giving a pretty dose of color, the Pixie stick goes on as easy as 1-2-3. Forget the multiple steps, no complications. You can apply it to your face with your index finger, a brush, or directly. I definitely will be purchasing more when this runs out.

Face the day.

From left to right: Supergoop® CC Cream, Smashbox Cosmetics Primer, Benefit Cosmetics Brow Pencil, Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle [Exclusive] , and (top) Wilma Schumann Skin Care Eye Pads.
1. Supergoop® Daily Correct SPF 35+ CC Cream- Light/Medium (3) | $32

With a lovely and creamy texture, this light-weight formula allows the skin underneath to glow and still look like (Dare I say) skin! This CC Cream features a shade-adjusting technology which not only blurs imperfections, but also evens out your tone. Kudos to Supergoop for also being an efficient source of SPF. I am liking this product so far, however do still need to add a bit of concealer for more coverage.

2. Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer | $36

This product serves as the perfect pore and fine line minimizer. It glides on silky smooth and becomes a great base for foundation. Not sure about the price, but it does work nicely.

3. Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brow Pencil- Shade 3 (Medium) | $24

An easy to use application and waterproof? I’m sold. The angular pencil makes your life much easier whether you want to fill or shape your brows completely. It has buildable intensity and the full-sized prodcuct contains a spoolie on the opposite end of the pencil. I love 2 for 1’s! I don’t typically like to mess with my eyebrows but I may make an exception for this.

4. Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle | $23.50

With a light and flowery/vanilla scent, this 100% vegan formula is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I’ve just started using it today and am hooked. Although the directions state that it should be applied onto towel-dried hair, I spritzed some onto my ends and combed it all the way through. What a super soft feel! UV protection, sulfate free, detangles and moisturizes the frizzies. I’m sorry but I have to say it again, love love LOVE!

5. Wilma Schumann Skin Care Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads | $18

Say good-bye to tired eyes. This interesting innovation is one of the few anti-aging/dark circle reversers that perform what they promise. I woke up early this morning to put my nephew on the bus and found myself looking especially disheveled. When I came home, I thought I felt invincible and then wound up falling asleep for 2 hours. I looked like I was still longing to stay in bed, so I decided to give these babies a try. The texture of the pads were similar to jello but felt really great under my eyes. After 20 minutes was up, I instantly noticed the difference. For $18 I can get 5? Sold.
